A couple of month in the past, Angela Autumn launched “Mountain Stream,” the lead single from her new album Believer. We appreciated that one so much, so I am joyful to report she’s bought one other tune out right now. The Nashville-based artist, who additionally duetted with Deloyd Elze on the mirage-like nation monitor “George Jones” this 12 months, performs a uncooked, off-kilter model of roots rock that will go properly with Zoh Amba’s singer-songwriter materials. On the brand new “Heavy Tobacco,” she lets her voice scrape towards towards your ears because the hook burrows its manner into your mind.
In a press release, she interpreted the lyrics:
It is a track concerning the tobacco spirit. In lots of cultures, notably American indigenous, tobacco is regarded for its purification skills. I don’t suppose many of us see tobacco as “wholesome”; fairly the other. The message is that something optimistic can turn into dangerous when abused. It’s me reflecting upon decisions that have been crucial however carried each optimistic and unfavourable penalties.
Fame looks like one thing to be chased, with a time restrict on our actualization. Smoking is a manner of counting moments, of categorizing time. Inevitably our objectives and wishes will run out and we’re left with our legacy, and affect on the earth– consciously or unconsciously.
