Rising up, Becky G felt caught between two cultures. The worldwide famous person — who simply launched a brand new album, Baraja Bendita — was born in California to American dad and mom of Mexican descent, or as she put it within the newest episode of the UPROXX collection Visionaries Moments, she felt that she needed to be “extra Mexican than Mexicans and extra American than Individuals.”
Nevertheless, Becky G was ultimately to overcome that concern. “For individuals who don’t know, I acquired found by doing covers on the web, and it was by no means a query or a doubt that I used to be pleased with my Chicana roots,” she defined. “However I believe that after I began singing in Spanish, I used to be in a position to faucet into my pleasure rather a lot in another way. It was a connection on a soul stage that I felt referred to as upon to actually lean into.”
Becky G later mentioned her many high-profile collaborations through the years. “I really feel very blessed to have collaborated with so many artists. I imply, legends just like the one and solely will.i.am, who was one of many first ones to type of give me the bendición [blessing]. He’s like a fairy godfather, if you’ll,” she stated. “Individuals like Pitbull, an iconic 200 Percenter, Mr. Worldwide, who’s been doing it in Spanglish since earlier than it was cool as effectively. Dangerous Bunny. I believe there was this actually stunning trade in each of our careers at the moment that then changed into the worldwide hit ‘Mayores.’”
Becky G’s success is barely a part of what makes her a visionary; her willingness to “embrace failure” is one other.
“My Visionary Second was the second I made a decision that I might embrace failure. There’s very many moments that I can look again on that I used to be afraid of issues possibly not going proper,” she shared. “And typically they didn’t, however once they did go proper, I earned it.”
