Life is a rollercoaster, Ronan Keating as soon as informed us. You’ve simply gotta experience it.

Greater than 1 / 4 century has handed because the Irishman handed out these lifehacks, none of it a lie.

Keating has whizzed to the very peak of that thrill experience, bagging three U.Ok. solo No. 1 singles — together with that good pop nugget from 2000, “Life Is A Rollercoaster” — and 4 No. 1 albums. And as a member of Boyzone, he boasts one other six U.Ok. No. 1 singles, and 5 No. 1 albums.

That’s 9 No. 1 singles, 9 No. 1 albums. One other hit won’t be too distant, maybe tipping Keating’s profession chart crowns into double-digits.

“I’m simply within the course of of constructing a document proper now,” he tells Billboard over a Zoom from his residence in Dubai, “and the primary single is with a younger singer-songwriter by the title of Ed Sheeran. I’m able to launch this album.”

Rollercoasters, they arrive down too. After the distress of the pandemic, Keating misplaced his brother, Ciaran Keating, in a automotive accident in 2023. That tragedy rocked the veteran artist, now aged 49, as did the lack of his former Boyzone bandmate, Stephen Gately, in 2009. Artwork, because it so usually does, finds its method within the darker instances.

“I do discover readability, calm, in these moments after I’m on stage,” he explains. “I attempted to jot down a music about Ciaran, however I struggled so much with writing within the final couple of years.” Earlier this yr on a visit to Australia, the place he has a protracted historical past as a actuality TV choose, that artistic block turned dislodged when Keating and his spouse Storm stumbled upon a melody, a tune that turned one thing extra.

“The 2 of us spent the afternoon simply sitting and writing. I had the guitar and we wrote this music. It was the primary music I’d written since my brother died. That was the catalyst that has allowed me to get this album shifting and going,” he tells Billboard. “I believe it was my spouse’s angle of what she noticed me going by means of, and us going by means of as a household, and we ended up simply pouring our hearts out into this music. It was stunning. I believe music and songwriting has allowed me to grieve.”

After the robust, low factors, the rollercoaster is on the climb. “Storm and I, we spend a little bit of time within the studio writing. I’m in a very good place musically, and I’m able to drop this subsequent album, and I’m actually enthusiastic about it, the best way it feels, and it sounds.”

There’s no title simply but, however Keating is pleased with the progress made. “We’re about midway by means of the album. And I can undoubtedly say that the primary single shall be with Ed and (Wheatus frontman) Brendan Brown. The three of us wrote the music earlier within the yr, and it was simply a kind of moments. I knew that is going to be a giant second. So, yeah, I can confidently say it’s the primary single on the album.”

Keating is worked up, too, about his twenty sixth anniversary tour of “Life Is A Rollercoaster,” which continues Saturday, July 18 at Newbury Racecourse in the UK, and bolts into Germany, Switzerland, Austria and extra markets this summer season.

Then, on Dec. 5, a once-in-a-lifetime second, when Keating joins the likes of Robbie Williams, the Corrs, Natalie Imbruglia, Darren Hayes, Katherine Jenkins and extra for the Carreras & Pals live performance on the Gabba Stadium in Brisbane, Australia — the host metropolis for the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Video games.

“I’m very excited to lastly get to sing with Jose (Carreras), as a result of, you realize, I used to be fortunate sufficient to sing with Pavarotti again in 1998 (dueting on the Boyzone hit “No Matter What”). He’s on my checklist. I keep in mind that second when The Three Tenors stood up and sang ‘Nessun Dorma’ on the 1990 World Cup. That was a second that can go down in historical past as one of many nice musical moments of our technology.”

Wanting forward, “for me to get to sing with Pavarotti was this large second, and now Jose is there, and I’ve this chance to tick that field and to sing with him. This can be a nice honor,” Keating enthuses. “And sure, to face within the mighty Gabba, I’m very excited to be there and to carry out.”
