Harmon notes that he personally has been fascinated by Harry S. Truman, whereas different writers introduced up Teddy Roosevelt — and, in fact, Donald Trump and Barack Obama.

“The conversations about Obama and Trump had been inevitable,” Harmon admits. “Curtis has a naïveté that you might overlap with Trump, who’s like, ‘I’m an outsider, and I contemplate this job easy, and I don’t care concerning the forms of it.’ On the Obama aspect, it’s the charmer and the man who will get natural pleasure in being favored — that complete rock star side of Obama. However largely simply extra legendary elements of presidents from the previous, all Serpentor’d right into a check tube child that then turns into our model of possibly Martin Sheen in West Wing, the place it’s our fantasy president, warts and all.”

For followers hoping to catch Rick and Morty popping up on President Curtis (delicate spoilers forward), relaxation assured that the adventure-seeking duo are certainly a part of the pilot, though they won’t seem once more within the first season. We actually wished to have this present simply be capable of get its personal identification and breathe a bit of bit, so that individuals felt prefer it was its personal present.”

Harmon concurs: “If the present has a lifetime of its personal, then we will go Dick Wolf nuts with the crossovers and have Detective Munch throughout SVU. However we sit up for incomes that.”

The President Curtis launch arrives simply weeks after Rick and Morty landed its third Emmy Award nomination for finest animated sequence, having gained in 2018 and 2020. This 12 months marks the present’s first such nomination after a turbulent stretch lately that noticed Justin Roiland (who co-created the sequence with Harmon) exit following felony home abuse fees which have since been dismissed. The titular voice roles had been recast in mild of Roiland’s firing, with Ian Cardoni changing him as inventor Rick Sanchez, whereas Harry Belden took over as teen grandson Morty.

“It’s an extremely vital nomination for us as a result of the present has gone via transitions of such peril,” Harmon candidly shares. “To me, it looks like we’re an athlete again on a area after a significant harm, and so it’s an honor to be nominated. It’s all I want. I’m glad to go and watch Smiling Pals win or regardless of the case, however I’m so grateful for that nomination.”

             President Curtis

          Courtesy of Grownup Swim

President Curtis shouldn’t be the one potential alternative for growth for the Rick and Morty world. THR lately reported that supervising director Jacob Hair was in talks to helm an animated function model of the sequence for Warner Bros.

Though the potential movie doesn’t but have a script, Harmon notes that it does have “a technically accredited concept that we’re dreaming away on.” He was late to testing Denis Villeneuve’s Dune movies however reveals that they now may function inspiration: “I simply watched the Dune films due to messing round with the Rick and Morty film script. I used to be like, ‘Oh, my God, I’m so late to Dune.’ It’s so rad.”

As for his hopes with the Rick and Morty movie, Harmon provides, “It will be my objective, nonetheless self-destructive, to make it the best film ever to exist. Which may make it arduous to jot down. It will most likely be a sci-fi epic, transcending time and house, however not in a approach that was unsatisfying. It will most likely mix colours as different in its palette as Deadly Weapon 2 and Dune 2: Toon, in addition to Indiana Jones and every little thing. One may argue that it’s an idea that may be my undoing and the franchise’s as nicely, since me having permission to consider stuff shouldn’t be the recipe for achievement that individuals would suppose. It’s extra of a trailhead to hell, historically.”

![""]("https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/wp-content/themes/vip/pmc-hollywoodreporter-2021/assets/public/lazyload-fallback.gif")
